Butte is such a classic locality and an especially great place for a visit. Too bad the mines are no longer active. This is a typical quartz/pyrite combination from Butte. From the Willard Wulff collection. The story of the William Clark family is fascinating and the first chapters of one of my favorite books deals with Clark’s discovery of Butte and the mining there – read ‘Empty Mansions’ if you can!!!
