Published in 1932 by the Grabhorn Press – First Edition limited to 500 copies -color frontispiece of Johann Sutter, folding color plate after an original lithograph of Sutter’s Fort (worth a visit!), facsimile muster roll in Sutter’s handwriting (beautiful) – green paper over boards – slight chip on spine – one of the Fifty Books of the Year – this is one of the prettiest little books and reading Sutter’s own words is like being there. By the end….well….it did not turn out well for Sutter. But it did make me want to return to Sutter’s Fort and just sit away and let my imagination take over.
